Do you want to become a Parish Councillor?
Our Parish Council is looking for a person to fill a vacancy on the council. The commitment is limited to six formal meetings a year held in Hankelow. The role of a councillor is to represent the community so we look at issues that affect our area such as planning applications, the state of roads and parish improvements. We are also kept informed of Cheshire East council matters by our Ward Councillor. Outside the formal meetings, Parish Councillors often get involved in looking after parish matters such as footpaths and litter on the laybys. If you want to get involved, contact the Parish Clerk who can give you further information or come to one of our Parish Council meetings.
Food waste caddies
We have received this information from Cheshire East Council. We have reproduced the full details on a new page on this site: food waste collection.
In autumn, Cheshire East Council will introduce a new weekly food waste collection service, representing a major step forward for the borough in recycling and waste reduction.
A key milestone of the rollout of this new service is the distribution of outdoor food waste caddies to residents – which we are now nearing.
The below information has been provided to support you to inform and assist residents in your area. The council’s website has also been updated with further detailed information about food waste collections: cheshireeast.gov.uk/foodwastechanges and the wider service changes: cheshireeast.gov.uk/changes-to-bin-collections
As a reminder, the changes from autumn include:
• Introduction of weekly food waste collections.
• Black bin (general waste) collections will move from fortnightly to three-weekly.
• Residents may have a new bin collection day as the routes and rotas for collections are being updated to incorporate the new food waste service.
Scam emails
Some criminal scammer is sending emails appearing to come from our Chairman. We have no way to stop this. If you get an email from the Chairman and are not sure that it is genuine, forward it to the webmaster. Genuine emails will not ask for a reply because the sender is busy or has tonsillitis or something similar. Be very careful and never commit to buying something like Amazon tokens on behalf of the sender. Be warned!!
New bus service in March 2025
A new service has been introduced providing a bus service from Audlem via Hatherton, Nantwich and Wistaston to Leighton Hospital. The route is now number 53 and starts running from 31st March 2025, according to the timetable at https://bustimes.org/services/53-leighton-hospital-audlem. Let's try to make the most of this so as to keep the service running. The journey from Hatherton to the bus station takes about 20 minutes and from Hatherton to Leighton takes about 40 minutes. The timetable shows six buses to the bus station and four from there to Leighton and in reverse four from Leighton and five from the bus station.
Go-Too bus service extended
The Go-Too Bus service has now added new destinations, now including Walgherton, and includes Bridgemere Garden and Dagfields. There are various 'virtual' bus stops making it really accessible for everyone. It's really easy to use, just download the app or you can phone up to book. It's only £3 a journey, and runs Monday to Saturday 7am-9pm. All the information can be found on their website here. It’s like a taxi you just share with other people only much cheaper!
